The Power of Your Core Gift: The Smart Way to Start a Business

This chapter is all about one of the most important questions for aspiring entrepreneurs: What’s the right first business to start? And my answer is simple—begin with something connected to your core gift.

I’ve talked about this in my previous vlogs, but now, I want to explain it clearly. What is a core gift? How do you find it? And how can you use it to build your first—and hopefully successful—business?

Here’s the truth: if your business keeps failing or doesn’t feel right, it’s likely because it’s not built around your core gift.

What is Your Core Gift?

Your core gift isn’t just what you like doing or what you dreamed of doing. It’s the unique ability God gave you. And most of the time, it’s not even something you initially enjoy—but it's something you’re naturally good at. Even if you don’t like it at first, if it’s a gift from God, you are called to use it.

Let me be honest with you—my first three businesses failed. And when I look back, it’s clear why: those ventures were not aligned with my core gift. But when I started my fourth business, KARCO, everything changed. Why? Because this time, I was finally using my real core gift.

It took me almost five years to identify my real strength. I was chasing things I thought I liked, forcing myself into roles I thought looked good. But the moment I surrendered to the gift God gave me—whether I liked it or not—that’s when things started moving.

Why Start With Your Core Gift?

Many aspiring entrepreneurs want to start a business with no capital. But I believe God gave us something better than money to start with—our core gift. That’s your real starting capital. It’s a unique skill or ability you naturally possess, even if only a few people in the world share it.

Now, your core gift may not be glamorous. But it’s powerful. Because when you build a business based on your core gift, everything becomes easier to sustain and scale.

How to Identify Your Core Gift

Let me simplify it for you. Despite the millions of talents out there, most core gifts fall into just three categories:

  1. Creation
If you love building things, whether it's writing, composing music, drawing, crafting, or even coding—you’re a creator. You bring ideas into life.

  2. Selling
If you’re persuasive, love talking to people, telling stories, marketing, or closing deals—your core gift is selling. You're meant to influence and move people.

  3. Organizing
If you’re great at managing, planning, or coordinating tasks—you’re likely an organizer. You make systems work and lead teams to execute.

That's it—creation, selling, or organizing. Your core gift falls into one of these. It may not be what you want, but it’s what God gave you—and it’s powerful.

Don’t Choose Based on What You Want

This is important: don’t pick based on what you like. Pick based on what you have. God’s gift to you isn’t always what you dream about. But if you accept it, use it, and nurture it, it will open doors you never imagined.

If you’re great at selling—sell. If you’re a natural at creating—create. If you organize people and tasks well—manage. Don’t try to look like a boss just to impress others. Focus on your strength.

How Core Gifts Work in Business Teams

In every strong company, there are always three working parts:

  • The one who creates the product or service.

  • The one who sells it.

  • The one who manages the whole operation.

These three roles must work together. And when they do, that’s when a business grows. But if one of them is missing or not aligned, everything falls apart.

A side note: being an organizer doesn’t automatically make you an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who has vision and can execute even without a lot of resources. That’s a higher calling. But this blog is focused on helping you identify your core gift—your role in building something sustainable.

Final Thoughts: Start Where You’re Gifted

So now that you’ve read this far, ask yourself—what is my core gift?

Are you a creator?
A seller?
An organizer?

Once you know the answer, don’t run away from it. Lean into it. Focus on it. And use it as the foundation for your first or next business.

Because the most powerful businesses are built not on borrowed money, but on God-given gifts.
